very abstract and a little bit harsh: the labour process and the union is a special presentation of worker co-research with Steff Huì Cí Ling, a writer and researcher based in Vancouver (xwməθkwəy̓əm Musqueam, Skwxwú7mesh Squamish, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ / Selilwitulh / Tsleil-Waututh) on the course of worker struggles in arts and cultural sector unions. The conversation will touch on art, labour, real estate speculation, Canada Council for the Arts, and notes from the rank-and-file perspective.
A Year of Deep Listening Book Launch — Crossing Tones Listening Party with Jazz legend Bob Stewart
Join us for this third edition of Flux Festival, which offers an afternoon of listening, discussion, and performances. The day begins with the launch of the book A Year of Deep Listening: 365 Text Scores for Pauline Oliveros, edited by Stephanie Loveless. We’ll follow that with a special session featuring our distinguished guests, Ras Burnett and Ben Young from the New York jazz archive Crossing Tones, who will lead a jazz listening session in the presence of legendary jazz tuba player Bob Stewart.
Terms of Engagement: a workshop and discussion — Montreal Monochrome XI
Collective Collective invites cultural workers and artists to collaboratively write the Terms of Engagement that we would like to insist upon when working with institutions as BIPOC workers, radical organizers, and artist-parents. As a tool to negotiate for what we need, this drop-in workshop is an opportunity to share our experiences within institutions, and to propose what terms of engagement might be helpful to build better ways of working in our sector.
p(B)ajubá e a proteção de pessoas trans e travestis — Montreal Monochrome XI
In this conversation, Daniela Andrade and Fern revisit the role of p(B)ajubá in shaping LGBTQIAPN+ identities in Brazil while reflecting on the importance of preserving and protecting its travesti legacy. Centering trans and travesti knowledge, they discuss the ethics of collaboration, cultural transmission, and inclusion. As an Afro-trans linguistic heritage, p(B)ajubá offers a perspective that challenges colonial ways of producing meaning, inviting audiences to consider what forms of knowledge emerge from communities historically pushed to the margins.
Threading Frequencies — Montreal Monochrome XI
As part of Montreal Monochrome eleventh edition, this long table conversation brings together cultural workers from Gallery 44, Hamilton Artists Inc., South Asian Visual Arts Centre (SAVAC), and OCAD University who have been collaborating as part of Threading Frequencies—a three-year partnership project that responded to EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility) practices within artist-run centres alongside public discourse regarding institutional mistreatment of marginalized arts workers.
