La Centrale, articule and the Art Gallery of Guelph are pleased to present 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙖𝙛𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘿𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙨: 𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙣 𝙁𝙖𝙝𝙞𝙢𝙞 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙑𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙯𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙤 on Saturday, March 26 at 2pm at La Centrale*.
This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition 𝘿𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮 𝙜𝙖𝙯𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚 at La Centrale curated by Mitra Fakhrashrafi, from 𝙐𝙢𝙢 𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙡'𝙨 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 solo exhibition by artist Shirin Fahimi at articule, and the exhibition 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 curated by Mitra Fakhrashrafi and Vince Rozario at the Art Gallery of Guelph.
Since 2016, 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗶 has developed her practice into a body of works, multi-media installations, performances, and augmented reality series’ based on Ilm-al-Raml, the Islamic method of divination known as geomancy and translated literally as ‘’Knowledge of the Sand’’.
Join us for a conversation between artist 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗶 and 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼, co-curator of the exhibition 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨.

𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗶 is a digital media artist based in Ontario, born in Iran. She investigates colonial dichotomies of rationalism and superstition, as well as the ways in which women negotiate visibility in the political arena of Islamic societies through digital world-making. Her research is influenced by Islamic mysticism and magic in Iranian society and diasporic communities. Since 2016, she has developed her practice into a body of multimedia installations, performances, and extended reality works based on the Islamic method of divination called Ilm-al-Raml, known as geomancy. 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 is an independent critic, curator, writer, arts administrator, and community organizer based in Tkarón:to/ Toronto. They have presented curatorial projects at the Art Gallery of Guelph, Xpace Cultural Centre, the Gladstone Hotel and the Canadian Filmmakers’ Distribution Centre. They have published criticism in C Magazine, Momus, and ArtsEverywhere, and contributed to exhibition texts for Whippersnapper Gallery, InterAccess and Gallery 44. They were the winner of the 2018 C New Critics Award and the 2021 Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators. They are a co-founder of Bricks and Glitter, a grassroots, intergenerational QTBIPOC arts festival, and currently serve on the board of Whippersnapper Gallery.
