ENCRE ROUGE/RED INK — Dominic Lafontaine
— From January 16 to February 28, 2026
— Opening reception on January 16, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM
— Guided Tour & Presentation on February 28 at 4 PM

ENCRE ROUGE/RED INK is a multimedia installation that exposes the phenomenon of the Pretendian—non-Indigenous individuals who falsely present themselves as Indigenous.

The work tells the story of the Federation of First Nations Collective (FFNC), a fictitious organization created using artificial intelligence. Viewers are invited to relive a pivotal day in the FFNC’s history by visiting its headquarters, where the organization produces its identity cards.

Using humor, the piece highlights how real- world groups, much like the fictional FFNC, weaponize bureaucracy to exploit the perceived "benefits" of Indigenous identity. These actors spill red ink in their attempts to appropriate "red" blood.

L-DR 2000 Launch — Guided Tour and Presentation by Dominic Lafontaine
— Saturday, February 28, starting at 4 PM

The closing of the RED INK/ENCRE ROUGE exhibition will feature a guided tour in the presence of the artist and the official launch of L-DR/N-É 2000*, a conceptual artwork that explores the phenomenon of pretendians who believe themselves to be shamans.

— Workshops open to everyone and hosted by the artist: Thursday, March 26, Thursday, April 9, Saturday, April 18, and Thursday, April 23, 2026. More information to come.

This project traces a queer and decolonial genealogy through sensory narratives rooted in the landscapes between Martinique and Quebec. Through an immersive and evolving installation blending sound, text, bioplastics, organic objects, and images, the work proposes a living laboratory where speculative fiction, guided meditation, and aquatic stories intertwine. The exhibition invites a bodily and collective experience, transforming visitors into an integral part of a shifting queer ecosystem.

Montreal Monochrome XI — TRANSIENT
— September 2-6, 2026. More details to come.

Montréal Monochrome is an annual conference series for Indigenous, Black, and artists and cultural workers of color, organized by articule's Fabulous Committe. This 11th edition, which will take place from September 2-6, 2026, will expand to welcome guests from across Canada to explore our theme: TRANSIENT.

Public Announcement: The 2026 Edition of MTL Monochrome originally scheduled for May 20-22 of 2026 will be moved to the Fall. The new anticipated dates for the festival are Sept. 2-6, 2026. After deliberation and discussion with the Fabulous Committee (anti-oppression), we have concluded that shifting Monochrome aligns with our external funding timeline and our team's work capacity. The decision to postpone the festival gives both staff and members more time to prepare a nourishing and generative event and allows us to utilize funding granted from both Race Relations Canada and Heritage Canada.

We are looking forward to the conversations this Fall that hope to build new, long-lasting solidarity networks among BIPOC arts workers across the country, promoting discussion and awareness of systemic racism in the arts milieu

HTMLLES Festival — Sineh-beh-sineh: Reimagining Oral Traditions — Nagmeh Sharifi
— Sunday, May 24, 2026, from 1 to 5 PM.
— Registration is mandatory, as places are very limited.

Taking place in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, HTMLLES is a festival in media arts and digital culture that brings together local, national and international artists, scholars, and activists who are passionate about critical engagement with new technologies from feminist perspectives. Each edition explores urgent socio-political questions through a series of exhibitions, talks, performances and workshops.
