L-DR 2000 LAUNCH — Guided Tour & Presentation by Dominic Lafontaine

Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 4 PM.

The closing of the RED INK/ENCRE ROUGE exhibition will feature a guided tour in the presence of the artist and the official launch of L-DR/N-É 2000*, a conceptual artwork that explores the phenomenon of pretendians who believe themselves to be shamans.

Taking the form of a thermal printer (Epson Tm-U220), the model spits out “wise words” and absurd metaphors drawn from the internet by AI. Participants will have the opportunity to collect their own generated “sage sayings”. Dominic Lafontaine will also be showcasing his latest prototype, CZNT-1000.

* L-DR and N-É are puns based on the words Elder and Aîné, and 2000 evokes the image of something a little outdated, dating back to the twentieth century.

Dominic Lafontaine is an Algonquin multimedia artist, poet and musician. His audacious, humourous and often absurd artworks explore the very notions of cultural identity, meaning and belonging. A graduate of Visual Arts at Ottawa University, he synthesizes his knowledge of traditional art forms with new media in order to redefine the substance and visual language of contemporary native art. His motto: «Research, remix and repeat!».
