Popup Workshop — Eco-cyanotype with Adrien Foula
Saturday, August, 2026 from 1 to 4 PM. Open to all and free.
A cotton tote bag and the cyanotype materials will be provided.
The number of spots is limited. Please register in advance so that we can prepare the materials.
Workshop is facilitated in English but all languages are welcome.
This Eco-Cyanotype popup is designed around mindful material use. Cyanotype printing relies on sunlight as its primary energy source, reducing the need for electricity and keeping the process naturally powered by the environment.
The goal of this popup workshop is to move beyond the fear of creating the "perfect" print and instead embrace experimentation and markmaking. Participants will explore how natural elements and organic forms cast shadows to produce beautiful cyanotype imagery on fabric. What may seem like "mistakes" often lead to more interesting and unexpected results than technically perfect prints. Some variations may occur.
Each participant will leave the workshop with a 100% cotton printed tote bag, locally made by Petites-Mains, an organization supporting immigrant women in Montreal since 1995. The bags are chosen for their durability and long-term usability, encouraging participants to keep and reuse their printed objects rather than treat them as disposable items.
Please note that the botanical materials used in the composition stage are either foraged or sourced responsibly. Participants are encouraged to select fallen leaves, pruned garden material, or sustainably collected elements to avoid disturbing living plants and local ecosystems.
Facilitator
Adrien Foula (he/him) is an artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal whose practice moves between conceptual art and visual storytelling. Working primarily in printmaking, alongside installation and mixed media, he explores how images take on the appearance of authority and inspire trust, focusing on institutional printed matter as a visual system that constructs legitimacy.
