Posters and Poetry of Resistance!

Join Maison Palestine on October 23rd for “Posters and Poetry of Resistance!” opening with the story of Palestinian political posters. Historian Dyala Hamzah will introduce the artists and the institutions involved in their production. Nyla Matuk and Leila Faraj will offer short readings of Palestinian resistance poetry, in English and French, by writers Mahmoud Darwish, Hiba Abu Nada, Rashid Hussein, Dareen Tatour, Tamim Barghouti, and Nyla Matuk.
— Glimmer of a Grove Beyond explores representations of Palestinian land and natural geography through an array of political posters drawn from the Palestinian Museum’s permanent collection. The collection includes a set of 540 Palestinian political posters, produced between the late-1960s and early-1990s, which were collected and generously donated by the late ambassador Ali Kazak.
Organization
Maison Palestine is a non-profit cultural organization, founded in 2023 in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal, on unceded Indigenous territory. The organization is dedicated to the history, present, and future of Palestine, as refracted in the arts, social and political trajectories, and various other contemporary forms of knowledge production in the Palestinian diaspora.
Dyala Hamzah and Nyla Matuk are the cofounders of Maison Palestine, Dyala is a professor of Modern Arab History at Université de Montréal. Nyla Matuk is the author of two books of poetry and a forthcoming novel. Leila Faraj is a PhD candidate in Sociology at UQAM and a feminist activist with a career in humanitarian aid, international development and arts and culture.
