As part of the 8th edition of Montréal Monochrome, multidisciplinary artist fernando belote presents The modern fracture of time.

The modern fracture of time is a meditative neuro-diverging text intended to question colonial phenomena and its implications on time, action and reason. A French version of the text will occupy Articule’s front window for a little bit over a month and it is intended to be read any time of the day. A QR code leading to an English version will also be made available for those who wants to access the text original version.

Considering the increase in COVID 19 and flu transmissions, please note that masks must be worn for the duration of the events.

The finissage of Montreal Monochrome VIII and the presentation of fernando's showcase will also be available on Zoom, with live interpretation in ASL/LSQ!

fernando belote is a bixa/queer and multidisciplinary artist coming from a context of cultural and functional diversity. Fern's artistic practice is strongly expressed through their life experiences as a neurodiscordant individual and survivor of domestic violence. Fern's art is a reaction to the massifying and dehumanizing power of capitalism and aims to reframe everyday objects towards a contra-colonial and anti-fascist struggle. Fern is currently involved in collaborative research on the P(B)ajubá, a subversive, heavily codified dialect spoken among dissidents who are geographically located in the stolen territory known as Brazil. In Tio'tia:ke, fern has just been elected a member of the Board of Directors at the newest local artist-run center: the DC – Art Indisciplinaire, which is dedicated to the self-management of capacity and diversity. Witness of significant changes in the local art scene and a member of articule since a long time, fern contributed to the discussions that have been brought to Fabulous Committee at articule.

Montreal Monochrome is an annual conference organized by articule’s Fabulous Committee (anti-oppression). It aims to address the mis- and under-representation and systemic oppression of marginalized groups in Montréal’s contemporary art milieu. The conference works toward imagining and nurturing new and existing bonds, solidarities and friendships between Indigenous artists, thinkers and cultural workers and their racialized allies.

As a project of the Fabulous Committee, this year the Short Term Programming Committee is joining the efforts of the Fabulous Committee to combine the annual conference with a window exhibition and a Special Project. Both proposals are an invitation to think about the new gallery space in terms of multiple notions of time.

Given that accessibility is contextual, varied and dynamic, if any aspect of our programming is inaccessible to you now or in the future, please let us know. We are happy to discuss and provide an alternative.

articule is located in a ground floor commercial building in Villeray neighbourhood. There are no stairs at the gallery, and to enter, the front door has a slope (light inclination). There is one glass door to get into the gallery. A staff member can assist you with the door.
