articule is an open-access artist-run centre dedicated to the presentation of a broad range of contemporary art practices. Through our various programming channels, we strive for artistic rigour, interdisciplinarity, and social engagement. The Centre is organized using a horizontal model where personnel work collaboratively and in collaboration with the members of the Board of Directors.
The Communications and Outreach Coordinator works a flexible schedule based on a 26-hour work week, Wednesday to Saturday. The position encompasses three main areas: communications, outreach, and membership development (“inreach”).
Inform the public and the members about the Centre’s activities (through the website, newsletters, and social media tools; in person, via telephone, and email)
Liaise with the website developer and the ICT Committee
Prepare press releases and ensure follow-up with media outlets
In collaboration with the Programming Coordinator, develop and articulate the Centre’s visual identity along with the tools necessary for communications
Prepare the Centre’s annual Communications Plan and update the Communications Toolbox as needed
Manage the development and set-up of a new website for the Centre
Coordinate the Fabulous Committee and contribute to the development and implementation of articule’s anti-oppression strategies and activities (including Montreal Monochrome)
Coordinate the Development Committee and, in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator, contribute to the development and implementation of articule’s outreach and fundraising activities (including Le Mile End s’articule)
Identify community organizations, activist groups, schools, individuals, etc. of interest as potential collaborators and organize appropriate initiatives to engage communities traditionally marginalized or excluded from the arts milieu and artist-run centres
Coordinate, support, and/or facilitate discursive and programming activities in collaboration with the Programming Coordinator: artist talks, workshops, screenings, research projects, school visits, openings, etc.
Welcome the public, track attendance statistics, and ensure the Centre is presented in a clean and attractive fashion during opening hours
Ensure good relations between the Centre and its members, provide support to member projects, and identify and respond to member concerns
Coordinate initiatives for member workshops and professional development
Solicit and coordinate volunteers for the Centre’s activities, including gallery sitting, openings, and events
In collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator, contribute to the organizing of member general assemblies and the upkeep of member registration and lists
Contribute to the writing and editing of grant applications
Supervise or co-supervise interns, as required
Share routine tasks and contribute to the Centre’s general operation
Minimum of three years of experience in communications, outreach, and event organizing
Knowledge of the structures of artist-run centres
Understanding of the various forms of oppression and systemic discrimination
Experience working with content management systems (websites), graphics software, and email marketing services
Strong ability to communicate and to animate social media tools
Mastery of French and English, spoken and written
Meticulous editing and proofreading abilities
Experience in project management
Experience working with volunteers
Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperative approach to working in groups
Excellent organizational skills and ability to problem-solve
Initiative, independence, motivation, versatility, and flexibility
Knowledge of artistic, community-based and alternative structures in Montreal is a plus
Having an arts practice is a plus
