Monitor 12: Figures Pointing Outside the Frame
Monitor 12: Figures Pointing Outside the Frame  |  11/24/2017 - 19:00

articule is pleased to present SAVAC’s Monitor 12: Figures Pointing Outside the Frame, a video program co-curated by Toronto-based curator/artist Oliver Husain as well as Jakarta-based programmers at ARKIPEL International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival, Otty Widasari and Yuki Aditya. Following Monitor 11’s program These Monsters are Real, this marks the second year that SAVAC invites a local curator to collaborate with international curator(s).

Whether film, video, or a still image, the technology dictates the parameters of the frame. Decisions an image-maker makes regarding the composition, duration, performance, and location further contribute to a viewer’s experience....

For a second consecutive year, articule is pleased to collaborate with Black Radical Imagination by presenting the new iteration of their short film programme. Curators Erin Christovale (Los Angeles) and Amir George (Chicago) have selected four films that tackle issues present in lives within the Diaspora. 10/28/2016 - 18:00

During the summer of 2016, SAVAC hosted a summer long residency, The Lie of the Land with artist Golboo Amani. The residency consisted of two social practice works that focused on breaking down the myths and fallacies of the colonial expansion and development that often shape the relationships settler colonials have to Turtle Island (North America). Through her work, from space intervention to social practice, Amani uses both real and virtual landscapes to intervene in the settler colonial narrative. From this residency she created the game Unsettling Settlers of Catan, which aims to research...  - The Family Night Series | Discussion and Workshops

arrow_rightArt and Intimacy: the relational power of art and teaching
10/22/2016 - 15:00

In this round table, artist k.g. Guttman brings together artists and researchers around notions of play, authenticity and trust. How do these ideas operate in the teacher / student relationship in fine arts? How does the ability to forge powerful connections with students enable learning in the creative process? How does teaching inside the university reflect on intimacy in learning? With Nika Khanjani Rosadiuk, Skye Maule-O’Brien and François Morelli, k.g. Guttman will attempt to answer these questions which form the basis of her new publication, It’s like hammering into...  - Art and Intimacy: the relational power of art and teaching | Special projects
